(Patch Media)

Good morning, Pawtucket! Like many of you, the Patch team is taking some time off to enjoy the holidays, so there will not be a newsletter in your inbox tomorrow. We appreciate your understanding of this slight pause in our schedule, and I will be back on Monday with the next edition of the Pawtucket Daily! Now, here's everything happening around town today.

First, today's weather:

A snow shower in the morning. High: 35 Low: 26.

Here are the top 3 stories in Pawtucket today:

  1. On Thursday, U.S. Senator Jack Reed announced that the Pawtucket Housing Authority will receive $245,850 federal funding from the Resident Opportunities for Self-Sufficiency (ROSS) Program. The ROSS Program helps local residents transition from welfare to work through job training and services like transportation, childcare, and counseling. Central Falls and Lincoln housing authorities will also receive federal grants, representing a total of nearly $703,000 for these three Rhode Island cities. (WLNE-TV (ABC6))
  2. The Pawtucket Public Library has announced its holiday hours for the rest of the year. It will be closed Friday, Dec. 24 and Saturday, Dec. 25 for the Christmas holiday and resume normal hours on Monday, Dec. 27. The library will also be closed Friday, Dec. 31 and Saturday, Jan. 1 for the New Year. Normal hours will resume on Monday, Jan. 3. The Bookmobile will also be off the road on Dec. 24, 25, 31, and Jan. 1, and will follow the normal schedule the following Tuesdays. The full schedule is available at pawtucketlibrary.org. (Valley Breeze)
  3. There's no place like home for the holidays, but if you're looking for a new one, the Pawtucket real estate market has some great properties available. Check out these new listings that have just become available right here in town. (Pawtucket Patch)

Today in Pawtucket:

  • Critters Live The Surprise Party At Garden Grille (7:00 PM)

From my notebook:

  • Thanks to generous donors at three Planet Fitness locations — one in North Providence, one on Armistice Blvd. in Pawtucket, and one on Ann Mary Street in Pawtucket — the Boys & Girls Club of Pawtucket was able to provide holiday presents for many of its members and their families this season. (Facebook)
  • The Pawtucket Police Department needs your vote for its entry in the She Loves Police gingerbread house contest by Saturday! Then, give a like to our neighbors to the south Warwick Police Department! "Let's make this an all-RI final!" said the department. (Facebook)
  • A neighbor in Quality Hill is trying to gather fellow community members to temporarily donate Christmas lights to get the Fairlawn Christmas tree in Pawtucket lit up for Christmas Eve and Christmas night. The existing lights were damaged from a recent wind storm and will not be repaired in time for the holiday. (Nextdoor)
