Here are the top stories today in Pawtucket:
- A surveillance camera captured a fire erupting at a Pawtucket liquor store, which police say was part of a string of arsons reported on Monday. Cameras recorded a person walking up to Rick's Liquors at the corner of Broadway and Tingley Street carrying what appeared to be a bucket. The suspect approached a trash bin and flames were seen moments later. The fire marshal's office said accelerants were found at the scenes. A person of interest has been identified in the case. - The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of Rhode Island has announced it will represent a local woman who was sued for libel after a beach confrontation in Charlestown this summer. Sarah McKenna of Pawtucket was sued in state court in August by James Marsh, who said her description of the incident on Facebook was "libelous and damaging to his reputation." McKenna will receive pro bono legal service from a cooperating ACLU attorney as she tries to dismiss the case on the grounds of censorship. (Subscription: The Boston Globe)
- The Election Day polls may have closed, but Pawtucket residents still have over a month before its District 6 Special Election for City Council is decided. Yesterday's election served as the primary for this special race, and the final election will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2021. Voters in District 6 have until Sunday, Nov. 7 to register for the special election. (vote.sos.ri.gov)
