Here are the top stories in and around Pawtucket today:

  1. The Pawtucket police have arrested a juvenile male in a shooting last week that injured a 14-year-old girl. The unidentified youth was taken into custody Thursday, and a firearm was recovered. He will be held at the Rhode Island Training School pending arraignment in Family Court on Friday. The shooting occurred on Sept. 24 near North Bend Street and Armistice Boulevard for a disturbance and possible shots fired. Upon arrival, the police found the victim with a gunshot wound to her leg. She was taken to a hospital and police said her injuries did not appear life-threatening. (The Providence Journal)
  2. A Pawtucket man was arrested at his workplace by federal officers from the Department of Homeland Security on child pornography charges. The agents executed a search warrant at the home of Samuel Maigret, and later arrested and questioned him. According to the affidavit, he admitted to downloading child pornography, and that law enforcement officers would find more files on his laptop and external hard drive at home. His bond hearing is Friday. (ABC6)
  3. A Pawtucket fundraiser for the Belfast Hunger Strike Monument hunger strike monument is set for Saturday, Oct. 2, at 2 p.m., at Galway Bay Irish Pub, 158 South Bend St. (The Valley Breeze)
  4. City and state officials this week confirmed the Rhode Island Department of Transportation's purchased of about six more acres of property near an in-progress new commuter rail station will more than adequately address any parking concerns in the area. (The Valley Breeze)
  5. The Rhode Island Department of Health on Friday reported 358 new coronavirus cases and no additional deaths. (WJAR)
