Morning, neighbors! It's me again, Nicole Fallon-Peek, your host of the Pawtucket Daily.
First, today's weather:
Sunshine and mild. High: 67 Low: 43.
Here are the top stories in Pawtucket today:
- The 2021 Rhode Island Life Index has uncovered some troubling new trends among citizens in the state's "core cities" like Pawtucket. The results of the Index, which is compiled by Brown University and Blue Cross, were announced on Monday during a webinar. Data showed that children and elders are suffering from a lack of health services, and all groups are struggling with affordable housing access. Additionally, Black, Indigenous, and people of color in core cities perceived social factors (e.g. access to affordable housing and cost of living) as "much greater impediments to health and well-being than white Rhode Islanders living in non-core areas." - Looking for some family-friendly activities this week? The Pawtucket Public Library has you covered! In addition to take-home craft kits and a Turkey Hunt every day (except Veterans Day), your child can join a reading activity today, a toddler storytime tomorrow, and a book club meeting on Saturday. Check out the library's event calendar to learn more. (Pawtucket Public Library)
- Pawtucket native and U.S. Army veteran Brehan Brady is one of a growing number ofBrown University students forging a new career path after life in the military. The 41-year-old Army infantryman served two tours in Iraq and took a "gap decade" before earning an associate's degree at the Community College of Rhode Island through the G.I. Bill. Today, Brady, who started at Brown this March, says his future career path will involve "[using] the education that I receive at Brown in service to other people." (Brown University)
