Here are the top stories today in Pawtucket:
- The Annual Pawtucket Winter Wonderland Festival opens this weekend at Slater Park. The 30-acre display, which is the largest in Rhode Island, contains hundreds of decorated trees as well as multiple light exhibits. On Dec. 4, 5, 11, and 12, the roads will be closed to allow families to safely walk through the display. (GoProvidence)
- High schoolers across Rhode Island will soon have the opportunity to experience the thrill of live theatre. As part of its "Experience PPAC" initiative, the Providence Performing Arts Center has a limited number of free tickets to some upcoming shows available for Rhode Island 10th graders. Available shows include "Rent," "An Officer and a Gentleman," "Oklahoma!," and "The Prom." In addition to limited live tickets, a series of free virtual performances will be open to all Rhode Island high school students. (WLNE-TV (ABC6))
- The largest state employees' union in Rhode Island has approved a new four-year contract that includes $3,000 COVID-19 vaccination bonuses. Council 94 of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees, which represents about 3,800 workers, overwhelmingly approved of the deal on Thursday. The contract also includes 2.5% annual raises; union and state officials said the bonus will help retain strained public workers.
