Aqudneck Island Just got Slammed with Rain
Monday storms hit the island the hardest, bringing more than 3 inches of rain in a short period of time.

The quick-moving thunderstorms lumbering over Rhode Island Monday seemed intent on targeting Aquidneck Island.
The National Weather Service reported 3.45 inches of rain fell in Portsmouth in a brief period between 11 and 11:30 a.m. About 3 inches fell in Middletown in the same time period.
A flash flood warning was issued earlier Monday for Newport and Bristol Counties as the thunderstorms developed and marched east.

There were scattered reports on social media that there was some street flooding and ponding. No severe flooding was immediately reported.
Along with the downpour, the storm brought lighting and booming thunder, including reports that lightning had struck buildings in Tiverton.

The flash flood warning is set to expire at 12:30 p.m.
One Patch reader said on the Portsmouth Patch Facebook page that the storm was impressive.
“I didn’t think it was going to end!“ said Chris Redfern Carceller. “Our street was like a river!”
