Cheering Crowds Brave Wet, Freezing Weather at Portsmouth Homecoming

With temperatures dropping to near freezing, and the homecoming parade and half-time festivities cancelled, Portsmouth High School students still managed to crown this year's homecoming king and queen before the start of Saturday's game.

Against the backdrop of darkened skies and a driving rain, Seniors Nicoletta Evangelatos and James Boyadjian were named the 2011-2012 homecoming king and queen.

"The student body take their king and queen very seriously," said Lori McEwen, Assistant Principal at PHS. "They choose the students who best represent the school and continue to contribute in a positive way."

Boyadjian admits he was "very surprised to have been picked," adding, "there are a lot of really great kids in this school."

"I thought for sure that Mr. Portsmouth would run away with it, but the people have spoken, and I should be good in the role."

Senior was named at Monday night's pagent kicking off of , which culminated with Saturday night's homecoming dance.

The Portsmouth Patriots lost Saturday's conference game against the Bishop Hendricken Hawks by a score of 22-10. However, may parents and residents still cheered on the team in the rain.
