Middle School Playground Needs Improvment
We are on a mission to improve the outside play space for the 4th & 5th grade students at Portsmouth Middle School.
We are on a mission to improve the current outside play space for the 4th & 5th grade students at . We would like to replace the current cracked pavement with fresh asphalt. To be followed by the addition of a large map of the United States, a compass rose and a Four Square Court. Rose Escobar and her students at PHS have offered to help with the paintings that will be both fun and functional.
Possible new equipment would be: Funnel Ball, a few benches, new backboards, as well as improved fencing surrounding this play space to better separate the kids from the cars. Any contributions of time, talent, funds and equipment are all welcome.
We estimate the cost of these improvements to be approximately $50,000. The has offered a Matching Grant of $25,000, to which we are going to work diligently until June 1 to raise the balance $25K. The PMS PTO has started us off with $5,000 and we hope to raise the balance with local business doantions as well as our "Buy a Brick" fundraising campaign. Engraved bricks can be purchased for $50 or $100. To learn more, please visit www.pmspto.ri.org.
Reaching our goal would allow us to hire JAM Construction to lay the new pavement and install the brick pavers this summer. They have given us the most competetive price and Kinder Industries of Bristol has offered to improve the fencing.
Your ideas and or contributions are always welcome in helping create a more inspired outside play space for our kids!
