Car Seen Speeding After Brush Fire
Crews extinguished a brush fire near the Anthony Road Overlook on Saturday.

Portsmouth Firefighters extinguished a brush fire by the Anthony Road Overlook on Friday afternoon and police said a suspicious car was reportedly seen in the area at the time the fire started.
According to a police report, a resident told police that he saw two white males who looked to be in their late teens get into a two-door, black Honda Civic.
The witness said the subjects exited the walking path. The car might have had a sunroof and the roof was faded or miscolored.

Firefighters told police they they would not be able to identify a cause of the fire. While at the scene, a Middletown officer in town for a followup reported that they saw a vehicle matching the description driving on Route 24 north at about 100 mph.
The car went over the bridge into Tiverton and Tiverton police were notified.

Police said it is unclear if the same car was the one reported by the witness who saw the two males leave the scene of the fire.
And the witness did not obtain a registration plate, nor were the subjects seen smoking.
Police are investigating.
