This lecture series will explore the social & cultural history of domestic architecture, featuring architectural historian John Tschirch

We hope you will join us at the Redwood Library and Athenaeum for a noteworthy historical lecture series, “The Classical House: Two Thousand Years of Architectural Design,” featuring four talks by architectural historian John Tschirch. Each talk will explore the social and cultural history of domestic architecture, from the houses of ancient Rome to the Neo-Palladian country seats of eighteenth-century Britain. The final talk, “The Neo-Palladian Triumph: The 18th-Century British Country Seat” takes place on Wednesday, September 23, at 6:00 pm. The other talks in this series will be on August 19, August 26, and September 9. This series is generously underwritten by Freeman’s of Philadelphia, America’s oldest auction house.

John Tschirch is the former Architectural Historian for the Preservation Society and current Instructor of Design History at Rhode Island School of Design. John is also a member of the Board of Directors of the New England Chapter of the Institute of Classical Art and Architecture.

Tickets are $25 per lecture or $75 for a series pass to all four events. To purchase a ticket for any lecture, or a series pass for all four events, please click here or call 847-0295, ext. 115.
