Connection Error Delays Prudence Island Votes

You may have been one of many residents rechecking and rechecking the state Board of Election Web site or Portsmouth Patch over and over again last night waiting on . 

You might have refreshed your computer screen again and again, only to see 7 of 8 precincts reporting. What exactly happened? 

According to Madeleine Pencak, registrar, a phone connection error from the Prudence Island polling location was the reason behind the delay. "For some reason, they couldn't send the results," Pencak said Wednesday morning. 

However, the results are expected later on today. Check back with Portsmouth Patch later this afternoon for the final tally! 

Newcomers sweep School Committee election 

However, even without the Prudence Island votes, one thing was very clear from Tuesday's Primary — Portsmouth favors new faces on the school board. 

The two incumbent Democrats, Marilyn King and Angela Volpicelli, came in last behind three newcomers: Emily Copeland, Terri-Denise Cortvriend and Andrew Kelly, the youngest elected at only 21. 

Three seats, excluding the unexpired term, are up for grabs this year on the school committee. The winners of the Democratic Primary will now appear on the ballot in November, along with two Republicans: Norbert J. Rattay and Aurelio Lucci.
