Council Postpones Voting on New Thrift Store at Coggeshall School Building
The Aquidneck Island Christian Academy plans to open a new thrift store on East Main Road across the street from St. Mary's thrift store.

The Porstmouth Town Council postponed voting on plans for a new thrift store on Monday until the space is checked for fire code compliance.
The vote was unanimous to postpone the issue until the July 25 council meeting.
The Aquidneck Island Christian Academy (AICA) is requesting partial use of the Coggeshall school building to open a thrift store.

The AICA has occupied the north wing of the Coggeshall complex since fall of 2003.
According to the AICA, "access to this facility to be used as a thrift store would greatly assist AICA in its need for financial stability as well as offer to the local community necessary items for sale especially during these hard economic times."

The AICA would utilize approximately 1,650 sq. ft. in the Coggeshall lower level on East Main Road for the store. The former Coggeshall school building is owned by the town of Portsmouth.
