Couple Extricated From Vehicle After Rollover Crash [VIDEO]
A total of three people were transported by ambulance following a motor vehicle crash Saturday morning at the intersection of West Main Road and Union Street.
Three people were transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital Saturday morning following a rollover crash on West Main Road at Union Street.Â
A silver, Toyota RAV4 landed on its driver's side around 11:08 a.m. at the corner of West Main Road and Redwood Road, just across from Union Street. Â
Gathering on the corner, neighbors watched as residents quickly came to the aid of the victims.

Before emergency crews arrived, at least a half dozen people could be seen directing traffic at the busy intersection, as well as standing on top and around the rolled-over van, talking to the two adult victims trapped inside.Â
Police and Rescue personnel arrived a short time later, directing traffic and quickly working to extricate the two victims.Â

A man and woman were extricated from the vehicle and taken on stretcher to a ambulance. The couple was then transported to Newport Hospital, according to Capt. Michael O'Brien of the .Â
A woman in a second vehicle was also transported by ambulance to Newport Hospital. All of the injuries appear to be "non-life threatening," O'Brien wrote in an e-mail after the crash.Â
The silver van was towed from the scene. Further details about the crash are unavailable at this time.Â
Traffic was temporarily backed up along West Main Road during the response.Â
Just prior to the crash, at 10:56 a.m., Portsmouth fire crews also responded to a report of smoke at . The smoke was caused by a resident cleaning their oven.Â
Since Portsmouth fire crews were at Bay View Estates, additional mutual aid was called to the crash.Â
Along with Portsmouth Engine 3, responding to the crash were personnel from the Newport Naval Station, Tiverton and Middletown Fire Departments.
