DUIs, Assault Charges Keep Cops Busy This Weekend

Several local residents were arrested this weekend for allegedly driving under the influence (DUI), while a Portsmouth man allegedly shoved an officer.

The following is a roundup of arrests made in Portsmouth throughout the weekend:

  • Joshua J. Zabaleta, 21, of 74 Russell Ave., was arrested Saturday morning following a motor vehicle crash on Park Avenue around 12:45 a.m.  No one was injured in the crash. Zabaleta was charged with driving under the influence (DUI), first offense.
  • David Alan Joaquin, 27, of 9 Berkley Ave., was arrested and charged with simple assault and disorderly conduct. Joaquin was arrested early Friday morning around 2:40 a.m. after police responded to Anthony Road for a report of a suspicious person. According to reports, the suspect was standing in the middle of the road and yelling. He was arrested at the scene. Joaquin allegedly pushed a police officer later that morning at the station. He was subsequently charged with simple assault.
  • Kyle James Mitchell, 18, of 745 Union St., was arrested early Sunday after the vehicle he was operating crashed into a utility pole and stone wall on East Main Road. No serious injuries were reported. The crash occurred near Church Lane just before 1 a.m. Mitchell was charged with DUI of liquor, first offense, and driving without the consent of owner.
  • Police say a 17-year-old was arrested on Sunday shortly after 5 a.m. at the Portuguese American Club on Power Street. The teen was charged with attempted breaking and entering, and conspiracy.
