Donate blood Saturday, August 11 at the Portsmouth VFW/American Legion Blood Drive at the VFW Post Home in Common Fence Point and hear and meet Portsmouth author Frank L. Grzyb talk about his newest book "Rhode Island's Civil War Hospital, Life and Death at Portsmouth Grove, 1862 - 1865". With 1,700 patients, the hospital at Portsmouth Grove became "a place of recovery and recuperation" at a time when medicine was failing. It was the Civil War and little has been written about the hospital at Portsmouth Grove (Melville). Books will be available for purchase. Presentation will begin at 10:30. Rhode Island Blood Center will be open from 10:00 until 2:00.
