Raymond Canario, 64, of Northumberland, N.H., and formerly of Riverside, R.I., died Sunday morning Jan. 16, 2011, at Weeks Medical Center, Lancaster, N.H.

Raymond was born in Fall River, Mass., on Jan. 5, 1947, a son of John and Olivia (Medeiros) Canario.

Raymond was raised in Fall River and was a graduate of Durfee High School.

He was a Vietnam veteran serving with the U.S. Coast Guard, and went on to graduate from the Rhode Island State Police Academy. He was a Rhode Island state trooper for 23 years retiring at the rank of Lieutenant in 1991. He lived most of his life in Riverside, R.I., before moving to Northumberland eight years ago.

An avid boater, he enjoyed fishing, hunting and loved to make people laugh with his stories.

He was a member of the Lancaster Assembly of God, the Coast Guard Auxiliary and the VFW in Riverside, R.I.

Family members include his wife Constance Canario of Northumberland, N.H.; four children,  Kim Chouinard, Steven Canario, Raymond "Randy” Canario and Victoria Canario, all of  Dartmouth, MA.; two stepdaughters, Gretchen Castleberry of Ringgold, Ga., and Jessica David of Capital Heights, Md.; a brother, Dennis Canario of Portsmouth, R.I. eleven grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents and older brother, Steven.

Relatives and friends are invited to a funeral mass on Monday, January 24, 2011 at 2 p.m. at St. Julie Billiart Church, 494 Slocum Road, North Dartmouth, MA 02747  Burial will be private.
