Lecture: The R.I. Irish Famine Memorial: Its Past, Present and Future

Presented by: The Museum of Newport Irish History- 10th Annual Michael F. Crowley Lecture Series

Donald D. Deignan, Ph.D. will discuss the evolution of the R.I. Irish Famine Memorial project from its inception in 1995 through the Monument's Dedication in 2007 and conclude with a careful consideration of the Project's future prospects and challenges.  The monument,  which is located on the Riverwalk in downtown Providence, commemorates the sufferings and triumphs of the two and one-half million victims and survivors of Ireland’s “Great Famine” of 1845-1851.

Following the 1-hour lecture, a reception with light hors d’oeuvres will be held and a cash bar is available.
