Fall River Man Critical after Motorcycle Crash in Portsmouth

Police say motorcycle operator was not wearing a helmet.

A Fall River man is in critical condition at Rhode Island Hospital after a serious motorcycle crash over the weekend. 

According to police, the accident happened around 1:30am on Saturday, July 7th. The motorcycle was traveling north on West Main Road in Portsmouth near Locust Avenue when the operator lost control and struck a guardrail. 

The rider was thrown from the motorcycle. Police say he was not wearing a helmet.  The operator of the motorcycle has been identified as 34-year-old Jeffrey Martins of Fall River.

Martins was first transported to Charlton Hospital in Fall River then transferred to Rhode Island Hospital in Providence. The cause of the accident is under investigation.
