Free Cone Day Today at Ben & Jerry's

Ben & Jerry's on Thames Street will be giving out free scoops of ice cream all afternoon.

If you’re looking to indulge your sweet tooth today without spending a penny, look no further than on Thames Street in Newport. 

The ice cream shop will be sharing the love one scoop at a time during the ever-popular Free Cone Day.

As many as six to seven thousand scoops could make their way out the door today, depending if the weather is on their side, Mike Griffin, of Ben & Jerry’s said.

The is not open yet this year, so they won’t be participating, he added.

As always, Free Cone Day doesn’t just satisfy ice cream aficionados, but also benefits local charities. This year’s event will help support the for the second year in a row.

Ben & Jerry’s has collected for Child & Family and the Potter League in the past.

Don’t think you’re limited to one scoop, either.

“Our record is someone came in 14 times one year,” Griffin said.

Volunteers from the Boys & Girls Club will be on hand to help dole out the sweet treats this year.

Ben & Jerry’s will extend their hours today and will be open from noon to 8 p.m.
