What's happening this spring weekend? How about a musical trip to Agrabah or a trip to a May Fair?

Here's a look at the many events happening in and around Portsmouth this weekend:


  • When/Where:
    Portsmouth Middle School will peform the musical "Alladin Jr." this Thursday, May 12, at 6:30 p.m.; Friday, May 13, 6:30 p.m.; and on Saturday, May 14, at 4 p.m. at the school.
    Why Go
    : Come see Portsmouth Middle School students perform music from this Disney classic, as well as Princess Jasmin and Alladin fly on magic carpets. This family event is open to the public.
    Pricing: Tickets are $5 and can be purchased at the middle school this week or at the door.
  • Andre Arsenault Performs at Scampi's
    When/Where
    : Scampi's Restaurant on Friday, May 13, from 8 to 11 p.m.
    Why Go
    : Come see a live performance from Andre Arsenault, an acoustic performer of rock, pop and folk, while enjoying Scampi's dinners and unique drinks, like mint-chocolate martinis.
    Pricing: Free for performance only; prices vary for meals

  • When/Where
    : Friday, May 13, at 7:30 p.m., , 909 W Main Rd, Middletown.
    Why Go
    : Each year, the Newport Choristers perform a benefit concert for a local charity. This year they selected Child & Family for the 2011 concert, “Proudly We Sing.” Tickets can be purchased in advance at Child & Family, 31 John Clarke Road, Middletown. Tickets will also be available at the door.
    Pricing: $10 adults, $5 children and seniors; $20 for families

  • When/Where
    : Sunday, May 15, at 7:30 a.m. at , 583 3rd Beach Rd, Middletown
    Why Go
    : With breathtaking views over the beautiful sanctuary fields and down to the ocean, there is no better place to welcome the return of spring. Guided bird walks and activities for children are offered throughout the morning. Bird walks run from 7:30 to 11 a.m., on the half hour. Breakfast seatings are 8, 9 and 10 a.m.; the breakfast buffet is prepared by the chefs at the White Horse Tavern in Newport.
    Pricing
    : Adults: $20 in advance; $25 at the door. Children ages 4-12: $5; ages 3 and under free.

  • When/Where
    : Sunday, May 15, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., The Pennfield School
    Why Go
    : The event welcomes the community to Pennfield’s campus, at 110 Sandy Point Avenue, a uniquely situated haven within Aquidneck Land Trust’s Sakonnet Greenway. The event will have an abundance of games, fabulous food, gardening tips, plant and a huge rock wall – always a hit at May Fair. The May Fair silent auction is live online and bidding closes at the end of May Fair.
    Pricing: Free and open to the public
