  • Shakespearean Concert at the Abbey
    When/Where
    : Portsmouth Abbey School auditorium, 285 Corys Lane, Portsmouth, Friday, June 10 at 6 p.m.
    Why Go
    : Musicians from New England’s top ensembles gather together to present an evening of orchestral music inspired by the writings of William Shakespeare. The concert will take place during the Portsmouth Institute, a three-day conference being held at Portsmouth Abbey School.

  • Spring Book Sale
    When/Where
    : , 2658 East Main Road, Portsmouth, June 11, 10 a.m.
    Why Go
    : Stock up on your summer reading books at this big sale.  Hundreds of titles of adult hard cover books and paperbacks will be available.  There are also children’s books as well as some used videos, music CDs, and books on CD and tape.
    Pricing
    :  Free to look, of course, but bring money for your finds.
  • An English Garden Party
    When/Where
    :  , 55 Vaucluse Ave., Middletown, June 11, 1-5 p.m.
    Why Go
    : Celebrate an old-fashioned English tea and garden party, with something for all ages. Just think, it's a perfect place to wear your hat from this year's Royal Wedding party! Tea, treats, entertainment, games, barbershop quartet, flower festival, plant sale, treasure trove sale, hat contest, book sale, petting zoo, pony rides, balloon animals and more.

  • Treasures from Ophelia’s Wardrobe
    When/Where
    : Ochre Court Mansion, , 100 Ochre Point Ave., Newport, June 10-11.
    Why Go
    :  This fashion event is a benefit for Child & Family's Ophelia Programs, a set of services designed to inspire, educate and support girls and young women in Newport County and beyond. Preview party and runway show at 7 p.m. Friday night; shopping open to the public for free on Saturday, 10-2. A special feature: some of the late Doris Duke's outfits are available.

    : Preview party cost varies; see Web site.  Shopping on Saturday is free and open to all.
  • Take Yourself Out to the Ball Game
    When/Where
    :  Friday, June 10 at 6:35 p.m. is the Season Opener for the Newport Gulls, a New England Collegiate summer baseball team whose home games are played at Cardines Field, Newport.
    Why Go: Great fun for all ages, with much less hassle than a big-league ball game.
    Pricing
    : Adults, 18 and older, $4; children 13-18, military ID and seniors, $2; under 12, $1.
