Get Out! See Purple Paintings or Enjoy Some Tea and Pedigree
There's an art opening in town, concerts, a tea party and so much more happening this weekend in and around Portsmouth!

- Opening Reception for Imagine Purple
When/Where: , 2679 East Main Road, Portsmouth, April 8, 6-8 p.m.
Why Go: The Portsmouth Arts Guild is a treasure right here in Portsmouth. This opens its “Imagine Purple” show, which runs through May 1.
Pricing: Free
When/Where: Seaconnet Sportsman's Club, 45 Seaconnet Boulevard, Portsmouth, April 9, 5:30 - 8 p.m. BUT, tickets are limited and not available at the door, so call today.
Why Go: A benefit for Friends of Island Park. There will be raffles, a silent auction, hors d'oeuvres and a cash bar. This event is being held to raise awareness of the serious issues that Island Park residents are facing and to assist with the Island Park legal fund. Pricing: $15 or $40 a family, but remember, no tickets at the door so please call beforehand!
- Tea and Pedigree, Ladies?
When/Where: , Portsmouth, April 10, 2 to 4 p.m.
Why Go: Step back in time at this dress-up event for all ladies, over age 5. Celebrate the past dog shows held at Glen Farm and enjoy a special afternoon of tea, treats and history. Benefits the Glen Manor House.
Pricing: $25 per person, call 846-8163.
- Common Fence Music at Channing Church
When/Where: April 7, doors open at 7:30 p.m. for 8 p.m. show, Channing Church in Newport.
Why Go: This is one of Common Fence Point Music's concerts, although it's held at the lovely Channing Memorial Church in Newport. On stage is Canadian folk-pop duo, Dala, featuring Amanda Walther and Sheila Carabine. The duo’s songs draw upon influences, including The Beatles, Joni Mitchell, Neil Young and Bob Dylan.
Pricing: $20
- Concert for The Healing Co-Op
When/Where: The Healing Co-Op, 272 Mitchells Lane, Middletown, April 9, 8 p.m.
Why Go: Canadian-American singer Rosemary Phelan performs with multi-instrumentalist Jason Laprade. Doors open at 7:30; show at 8 p.m.. Benefits the Healing Co-Op, a free nonprofit organization which supports women with cancer and their families.
Pricing: $25 at the door; $20 in advance.
- Compassion Film Festival
When/Where: Friday, April 8, starting at 6 p.m., the Jane Pickens Theater in Newport.
Why Go: Based on the theme ‘Compassion,’ this juried collection of short films submitted by local and regional film artists was organized by a group of individuals (with and without disabilities) who created their own film from script to screen in collaboration with film director Rocco Michaluk of Video and Vision in Newport. Film, art, music, wine and cheese. A benefit event for Looking Upwards, a local non-profit organization. A film by Portsmouth resident Sandra Hammel, "The Abandoned Genocide" is among those selected.
