Do you know how to save a life? It may be easier than you think. All it takes is a little time to learn an incredibly useful skill: CPR.
CPR, or cardio-pulmonary resuscitation, is a simple life-saving procedure for those experiencing cardiac arrest. Anyone can learn CPR and save a life—in my time teaching CPR, I have taught people as young as twelve who are just as good as the adults! CPR is so important to learn because according to the American Heart Association, four out of five cardiac arrests occur at home. This means that the life you are saving is statistically speaking probably a loved one.
A cardiac arrest happens when electrical impulses in the heart become erratic or chaotic. This causes the heart to stop beating. In contrast, a heart attack occurs when the blood supply to the heart is blocked. A heart attack can cause cardiac arrest, but is not the same thing. Cardiac arrests can happen to anyone at any time, and often occur suddenly and unexpectedly. The American Heart Association found that 383,000 out-of hospital cardiac arrests occur annually. Less than 8% of these people will survive.

Unfortunately, over 70% of Americans lack the skills to save someone in a cardiac emergency, either because they have never learned or let their skills lapse. However, quick and effective CPR can double or even triple a victim’s chances of survival! CPR has an enormous impact on survival rates. Sadly, only 32% of CPR victims get help from a bystander, causing hundreds of thousands of unnecessary deaths.
Learning CPR empowers you to save someone’s life, anywhere and at any time. A CPR certification course gives you the confidence, skills, and knowledge to step in during an emergency and make a huge impact on the victim’s chances of survival. It is the single most important skill a non-medically trained person can learn to save a life.
