Gun Sales On Rise Because of 'Politics,' Says Shop Owner

A local gun shop owner says this election season is causing a surge in business.

One Portsmouth gun shop owner says his sales were on the rise long before last week's tragic shooting in Aurora, CO. 

"Gun sales have been on the rise since before the shooting because of the election," says Dominic Calarco, owner of the . 

According to ABC News, gun sales have increased following the fatal shooting in the Aurora, CO, movie theater.

Gun sales have not only risen in Colorado, reports ABC News, but throughout the country, including a 10 percent increase in background checks in California alone. 

However, the Portsmouth shop owner says sales might have risen elsewhere in the country due to the shooting, but not locally. He says customers in Portsmouth are buying now because they are worried about gun law changes after the November election.

"It's all poitical," Calarco says. "Just look at the history of the Democratic Party...It's all for political reasons."
