Historical Society Honors Fallen RI Marines in 1983 Beirut Bombings
The memorial service will take place at Portsmouth Historical Honor Society on the 31st anniversary of the attack.

The service to honor those lost in the Beirut barracks bombings in Lebanon will be held next week.
The memorial service begins at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 23.
The ceremony will take place at the Portsmouth Historical Society building, 870 East Main Road.

Out of the 241 Americans killed in action that day, nine of them were Rhode Island Marines, according to The Beirut Memorial Online.

The nine Rhode Island Marines who died in action on Oct. 23, 1983 were:
- Cpl. Rick R. Crudale of Warwick
- Cpl. Timothy R. Giblin of North Providence
- Lance Cpl. Edward S. Iacovino, Jr. of Warwick
- Pfc. Thomas A. Julian of Portsmouth
- Cpl. David S. Massa of Warren
- Cpl. Thomas A. Shipp of Woonsocket
- Cpl. James F. Silvia of Middletown
- Lance Cpl. Edward Soares of Tiverton
- Lance Cpl. Stephen E. Spencer of Portsmouth
