How We Drive Non-New Englanders Crazy

When you take Exit 2 on Rte 24 and approach the end of the ramp at Boyd's Lane, there is one of those blue Food - Fuel - Lodging signs with little arrows.  For reasons understood only by the brain trust at RIDOT, there is a right arrow next to the "Food" sign at the bottom of that exit ramp.

Would someone please explain this to me?  I think the nearest food to the right at that point might be "Steve's Pizza" between Clement's Market and the Fire Department.  If you're scoring the game, that would be 3 and half miles and 3 unmarked turns away from that point.  Alternatively, turning right to hunt for food might lead you up to Hope Street in Bristol.  If you went that way, you would also need to travel 3.5 miles, know how to make turns at several unmarked intersections, and cross a mammoth suspension bridge all just to find something to eat.

Can you imagine being a hungry traveler and trusting that sign?  Why is it in our nature to torture out-of-towners this way?
