How We Feel About Portsmouth Survey Results

The short online survey has been closed with 80 people responding. The results are a snapshot of what some of us think about our town. 

How we think About Portsmouth – Survey Results

Question 1: What kind of a community are we? The majority answered Residential (54%), followed by Suburban (24%) and Rural (14%). Comments suggested that many felt we had aspects of all three.

Question 2: What Do You Like Best…? Most popular answers were Seacoast Location (76%), Good Location (50%) and Good Schools (49%)

Question 3: What Do You Like Least…? Answers were widely varied due to a tech error that didn’t allow multiple answers. Most popular responses were Traffic on Main Roads (16%), High Cost of Housing (15%), and Lack of Economic Development Opportunities (13%).

Question 4: Important Issues? Ranking of issues indicated that highest concerns were Stablization of Town Taxes, Continued Focus on Excellence in Education, An Open and Sustainable Budget Process and Maintenance and Improvement of Infrastructure.

Question 5: In Twenty Years…? Respondents Agreed or Strongly Agreed that Portsmouth should be a modern Family-friendly Community (98%), Business Friendly (95%), Leader in K-12 Education (95%), Maximize Use of Technology to provide civic services (94%), Have More Sidewalks and Bike Paths (87%).  Only 37% wanted the Town to remain unchanged, while the Build out of the Town Center Project response was more evenly balanced between those who agreed (51%) and disagreed (47%).

Question 6: Commercial development? Most popular choices were Marine Support Facilities (75%), Marine Construction and Repair (73%), Small to Medium Retail (73%), and Agriculture (66%). Least popular was Large Retail facilities (15%).

Question 7: Appropriate Economic Development Areas in Portsmouth?

East and West Main Roads – Small/Medium Retail (68%) and Medical/Office Facilities (59%)

Navy Tank Farms – Marine Facilities (83%) and Manufacturing Facilities (49%)

Center of Portsmouth –  Small/Medium Retail  (60%) and Medical and Office Facilities (58%)

South End – Small/Medium Retail (69%) and Medical/Office Facilities (54%)

North End – Small/Medium Retail (60%), Medical and Office Facilities (52%) and Marine Facilities (37%)
