Life of the Mind Salon: Peter Balakian
Renowned expert Peter Balakian, will speak on the Armenian Genocide of 1915 on October 21 from 5:30-7:00pm at the Redwood Library.

The 2015 Fall Life of the Mind Salon Series continues on October 21 with renowned expert Peter Balakian, who will speak on the Armenian Genocide of 1915. The Armenian Genocide refers to the Ottoman government’s systematic extermination of its minority Armenian subjects inside their historic homeland, present day Turkey, during and after World War I.
Peter Balakian is the Donald M. and Constance H. Rebar Professor of the Humanities, Professor of English and Director of Creative Writing at Colgate University. Balakian is the author of numerous books including The Burning Tigris: The Armenian Genocide and America’s Response, a New York Timesnotable book and best seller. His memoir Black Dog of Fate won the PEN/Albrand Prize and was a New York Times notable book. He is the recipient of many awards and prizes and civic citations, including a Guggenheim Fellowship, a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship, and the Emily Clark Balch Prize for poetry from the Virginia Quarterly Review. He has appeared widely on national television and radio programs including 60 Minutes, ABC World News Tonight, Charlie Rose, and Fresh Air.
