Ma Goetzinger's Clothing Store To Close After 41 Years of Business
The store is expected to close at the end of February, but merchandise is selling fast.
, a clothing store that dressed Portsmouth women for more than 41 years, is closing its doors.Â
Owner Carrol Goetzinger and her husband have decided to retire.Â
"It's been such a difficult decision," she said. "It's been a wonderful experience. I'd love to go on forever, but I'm not as young as I used to be."

Ma Goetzinger's began as a juniors' store 41 years ago and later expanded into offering all sizes for women. Today, the store carries jeans, T-shirts, jackets, skirts, accessories, custom jewelry, scarves, handbags and more.
"I started this store 41 years ago," Goetzinger said. "My husband has wanted to retire for several years. We're well beyond retirement age."Â

"We're getting to be long in the tooth," added Carrol's husband.Â
Carrol said she's seen women shop at her store for all 41 years, starting as teens and growing into women. "It's been such a great experience to see them grow," she said.Â
The store is expected to close at the end of February, but the recent sale might speed up the final day of operation.Â
Currently, all items are 50% off or lower. "It's clearing out rapidly," said the store's owner.Â
The future of the historic property, which Goetzinger and her husband own, is unknown at the this time. Goetzinger says she will first close the business and then decide the outcome of the building.
"We were very fortunate to be here as long as we were," she said.Â

Several residents have speculated this week about the closing of . Sources say the family-owned and operated business has closed its doors.
The business has been dark Thursday and most of Friday with only a "closed" sign on the door. Phone calls and messages left with the owner have not been returned at this time.Â
