Obituary: Amy Mattos, 94, Worked for Met Life

Amy Mattos, 94 of Middletown, passed away on Friday, August 29th, 2014 at Forest Farm Health Care Center in Middletown, RI. She was the wife of the late Lawrence J. Mattos. Born on December 7, 1919 in Portsmouth, RI, she was a daughter of the late Antone and Amy (DeCosta) Souza of Portsmouth.

She worked for Metropolitan Life Insurance Company for 35 years, until her retirement in 1979. Amy was a member of the Middletown Senior Center, Edward King House, AARP and formerly the Business & Professional Women’s Club. She was preceded in death by her husband and sisters, Mary Thomas, Grace Souza, Isabel Voisin and brother, Manuel Souza.

She is survived by her brother, John Souza of Providence, RI, nephews Manuel Souza Jr of Portsmouth, RI, Richard Souza, David Souza both of Middletown, RI and Arthur Mattos of North Carolina. Her nieces, Judith Crawford of Tennessee, Barbara Mattos Kemper of Portsmouth, RI, Carolyn Sly of Newport, RI and Kathleen Bullock of Virginia survive her.

Visiting hours are respectfully omitted. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 am on Friday, September 5th, 2014 at St. Augustin’s Church, Carroll Avenue in Newport. Burial will be private.
