Obituary: Florence R. Beaver, 81, Longtime Newport Jai Alai Employee

Florence R. Beaver, 81, of Portsmouth, RI died on Thursday, September 17, 2015 at Newport Hospital. Florence was born September 1, 1934 in Fall River, MA. She is the daughter of the late John Anyon Sr and the late Olivia (DeCosta) Pereira. She was the wife of the late Harold Beaver.

Florence worked for many years at the former Newport Jai Alai after her children were grown. She was also well known for helping her husband with the Boy Scout Troop 50 in Portsmouth.

She is survived by her daughter Colleen Beaver, and her sister Sharon Vandenburgh and her husband Robert, both of Portsmouth, and one grandson, Sean D. Beaver, and two nephews John and Kevin Vandenburgh of Bristol.

She was predeceased by her son, Steven Beaver.

Calling hours will be held on Sunday, September 20 from 4:00-7:00pm in the Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth.

The funeral will be held on Monday, September 21 at 10:30am from the Connors Funeral Home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30am in St. Anthony’s Church, 2836 East Main Road, Portsmouth, RI. Burial will be in Newport Memorial Park, Middletown.
