Obituary: Lloyd L. Beale, 80

Lloyd Linwood Beale, beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother, died peacefully on Wednesday, November 5 at the Philip Hulitar Inpatient Center in Providence.

Lloyd was born in 1934 in Portsmouth, Virginia to Mr. and Mrs. Barnard E. Beale. He was a 1957 graduate of Duke University, where he was vice president of Kappa Sigma fraternity. Mr. Beale was a Licensed Professional Electrical Engineer for more than 44 years, working in property development, including 12 years with Gilbane Properties.

Living in East Greenwich for 43 years, Lloyd was a member of East Greenwich United Methodist Church. During those years, he served on various committees including the building committee and trustees. Lloyd also served as chairman of the East Greenwich School Committee for 8 years. One of his greatest joys was singing in the church choir, which he enjoyed for more than 40 years. A natural tenor, Lloyd took great pleasure in the comradery and dynamics of the choir.

Lloyd is survived by his wife of 58 years, the former Shelley Conway Smith. He is also survived by their four children, Helen Beale Holcombe and her husband Dr. Randall Holcombe, Lloyd L. Beale Jr., Susan Beale Franke and her husband Paul Franke, Thomas B. Beale and his wife Beverly, 9 grandchildren, and by his brother and sister, Barnard E. Beale Jr. and Judith Beale Parke.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 12 at 11:00AM at the East Greenwich United Methodist Church, 1558 South County Trail, East Greenwich. Burial will be in Quidnessett Memorial Cemetery, North Kingstown. Calling hours will be Tuesday, November 11 from 5-7PM at the Hill Funeral Home, 822 Main Street, East Greenwich.
