Obituary: Richard A. "Piney" Pine, 74, Vietnam Veteran

Richard A. Pine Sr., 74, of Portsmouth, died Thursday, September 11, 2014 at Newport Hospital Newport, RI.

Richard A. Pine Sr., 74, of Portsmouth, died Thursday, September 11, 2014 at Newport Hospital Newport, RI.

Born in Bristol, RI on July 6, 1940, he was the son of the late Frank and Rose (Bettencourt) Pine.

Piney served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He worked his whole life as a Heavy Equipment Operator for over 45 years for Peckham Brothers Construction. Piney was a lifetime member of the FOP for over 20 years, and Pop Warner Football for over 15 years. For over 45 years he was the landscaper for the late Dr. Cyrill and Sandy Allen. Piney loved to fish, play Bocci, and people watch with a good cup of coffee. He loved nothing more than his time he spent with his children, grandchildren and his adopted family from the FOP. In Piney fashion Ten Four good buddies it has been a pleasure.

He is survived by his children, Nancy Jenkins and her fiancé Dennis Anderson of Middletown, RI, Richard Pine Jr. and his fiancé Melissa Worsley of Tiverton, RI, Michael Pine and his fiancé Deanne Doucette of Richmond, RI, and Deltra Cortes and her fiancé Mark Tesorio of Portsmouth, RI, his brothers Francis Pine of Portsmouth, RI, Anthony Pine of Portsmouth, RI, and Robert Pine of Somerset, MA, his grandchildren, Richard Jenkins II, Tia, Brittney and Brianna Anderson, Bianca, Cheyanne and Richard Pine III, Bella and Christopher Pine, Michael Routhier, and Sara and Kevin Cortes and his great grandson Trenton Jenkins.

He was the brother of the late Joseph Pine.

Calling hours will be held on Monday, September 15, 2014, from 4-8pm in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport.

His funeral will be held on Tuesday, September 16, 2014, at 12:00 PM in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport.
