
A person was killed in a serious house fire on Prudence Island on Thursday around 7 p.m.
The Prudence Island Fire Department responded to a single family home engulfed in flames on Ross Lane.
Firefighters discovered the body of a household member while extinguishing the fire.

A Prudence Island volunteer firefighter was injured while fighting the fire and was transported off the island by Ambulance and Bristol Fire Department Rescue Boat.
The State Fire Marshall and the Medical Examiner were transported to the scene.

Portsmouth Fire Department Captain Howie Tighe said crews had to fill and transport water from a water supply on the island to a tank truck since there are no fire hydrants on the island, WPRI reported.
The fire was extinguished at 9:21 p.m.
Officials have not released the injured firefighter and victim’s identities.
The last time a Prudence Island fire caused a fatality was two years ago, according to WPRI.
Rhode State Fire Marshal’s office and Portsmouth Police are investigating the cause of the fire.
