Parking Ban in Portsmouth Begins at Noon

As a major blizzard approaches Rhode Island, Portsmouth officials are making preparations.

The Portsmouth Fire Department is activating extra responders for Monday night and Tuesday and a parking ban will go into effect at noon on Monday in advance of what is being described as an historic blizzard bearing down on Rhode Island.

The Portsmouth Police Department announced the parking ban on Sunday night and thanked residents in advance for their cooperation and said they’ll “work with the other town employees to clear the roadways and other traffic hazards as quickly as possible.”

The additional responders on duty are being activated in an abundance of caution.

“Hopefully they will not be needed; please do your part to make sure they are not,” a post on the Portsmouth Fire Department Rhode Island Fanpage stated.

The storm is expected to arrive on Monday afternoon and will blast the area with anywhere from one-and-a-half to three feet of snow along with wind gusts up to 60 mph. Whiteout conditions and heavy snowfall will make for extremely treacherous travel conditions.
