UPDATED: Pitbull Bites 5-Year-Old Portsmouth Girl on Arm
A Portsmouth girl was transported to Newport Hospital Tuesday after an alleged dog attack.
A 5-year-old Portsmouth girl was transported by ambulance to Newport Hospital Tuesday morning after a pitbull bit her arm.
Portsmouth Rescue was dispatched to an Island Avenue home at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, according to Capt. Michael O'Brien.
A girl at the residence was reportedly bit by a pitbull. "The injuries were non-life threatening," O'Brien said.

A man on the scene was also bitten by the dog as he attempted to break up the alleged attack, according to the fire captain. The man refused medical treatment, O'Brien said.

also responded to the scene. The incident remains under investigation at this time, according to Lt. Brian Peters.
It is unknown if the dog was removed from the home. "I don't believe it was," Peters said.
The town of Portsmouth is currently without an animal control officer. The town has not filled the vacant position since .
