Police Log: Man Allegedly Hides in Grass To Avoid Arrest

Portsmouth police made the following arrests in the past few days. 

Man allegedly hides in grass to avoid arrest

David Tingle, 46, of Warwick, was arrested on Oct. 9 and charged with the following: domestic, disorderly conduct; domestic, vandalism; domestic, simple assault; domestic, refusal to relinquish the telephone; and resisting arrest. 

Police were called to an East Main Road residence for a report of a disturbance. Tingle allegedly got into an argument with a 48-year-old Portsmouth woman. 

During the argument, Tingle allegedly smashed a vase to the ground, pushed the woman to the floor several times and took the phone out of her hand when she attempted to call 911. 

Tingle left the residence before police arrived. He was later found hiding in the grass yard of another East Main Road residence. 

Tingle then allegedly fled on foot. After a brief chase, he was arrested and brought to the police station. He was later sent to the Adult Correctional Institutions (ACI) as a parole violator. 

Portsmouth man allegedly strikes woman

John Zegouros, 56, of 100 Cedar Ave., Portsmouth, was arrested on Oct. 8 at 6:45 a.m. 

Zegouros allegedly become involved in an argument with a 55-year-old Portsmouth woman. During the argument, he allegedly struck the woman in the back of her head with his fist. 

He was arrested and charged with domestic, simple assault. 

Man found sleeping behind Beach House bar

Brian Ennis, 50, of Newport, was arrested on Oct. 6 at 2 a.m. Ennis was wanted on an warrant issued by Providence police on the charge of simple assault. 

He was arrested after being found sleeping in a vehicle behind the Beach House bar. 

Pawtucket man allegedly blows high BAC

Reginald Severe, 35, of Pawtucket, was arrested on Oct. 5 at 10:50 p.m. and charged with driving under the influence (DUI), with a Blood Alcohol Content (BAC) over .15. 

Police recevied a report of a vehicle operating erratically on West Main Road near Hedly Street. Police detected a strong aroma of alcohol coming from the vehicle once stopped. 

The operator, Severe, failed a field sobriety test and later failed a chemical test at the police station. The BAC was allegedly .155 on first test and .157 on the second. The legal BAC limit in Rhode Island is 0.08. 

Fall River woman arrested on warrants 

Destiny Gray, 23, of Fall River, MA, was arrested on Oct. 4 at 10:40 p.m. on two Superior Court warrants: one for violating parole and the second for failing to appear at sentencing. 

Gray allegedly became involved in an argument with a 51-year-old Portsmouth man at a Scotty Drive home. Police were called to the house to investigate. A check revealed the warrants. 

Portsmouth man arrested on warrant 

Robert Furtado Jr., 54, of 3338 East Main Road, was arrested at his home on Oct. 5 at 6:30 a.m. Furtado was wanted on a warrant issued by Narragansett police for violating parole. 

He was arrested at his home and turned over to Narragansett police. 

Car didn't stop after crash 

Michelle Carr, 53, of 175 Middle Road, Portsmouth, was arrested on Oct. 4 at 5:30 p.m. after an apparent motor vehicle crash in Fall River, MA. 

A vehicle, operated by Carr, apparently kept traveling after a motor vehicle accident on Interstate 195 near Route 24 South. The vehicle later stopped at East Coast Construction in Portsmouth, but then continued again until being stopped by police on West Main Road near Sprague Street. 

Police detected an aroma of alcohol on the driver. Carr apparent failed a field sobriety test and later refused a chemical test at the station. 

She was charged with driving under the influence (DUI) and refusal to submit to a chemical test. The accident is under the investigation of Fall River police.
