Police Log: Gas Station Clerk Arrested After Allegedly Paying Phone Bill with Customer's Credit Card

Allison Mayville, 27, of 133 Cedar Ave., Portsmouth, was arrested Tuesday and charged with one felonious count of fraudulent use of a credit card.
According to police, a 42-year-old Portsmouth male reported observing fraudulent charges on his credit card within the past four months. The credit card was apparently used to pay charges on the Sprint Wireless Web site.
Police soon began an investigation and say they learned that the suspect, an employee of a Newport gas station which police have declined to identify, allegedly took the male's credit card numbers while at work. The victim was a customer at the gas station, police said.

"She allegedly used the credit card numbers to pay her (cell) phone bill," said Lt. Brian Peters of the Portsmouth Police Department.
According to Peters, more than $635 was spent over a four-month period using the credit card numbers.

Mayville was arraigned Tuesday afternoon in Second District Court. She pleaded not guilty at the arraignment.
