COUPLE CHARGED
Portsmouth police charged an estranged husband and wife each with domestic simple assault after officers responded to a domestic disturbance at their Hargraves Drive house Friday night and were told conflicting stories.
Police said Miriam Sigob Tashjian, 51, told police that she told Peter Christopher Tashjian, 57, to leave and didn’t want him spending the night that night.

ASSAULT
Police charged Stephen Clarence Putnam, 42, of no permanent address, with domestic simple assault, third offense -- a felony -- and simple assault and a warrant Thursday for allegedly beating up a Portsmouth woman on Christmas Eve.
The victim did not initially report the crime, police said. A friend who noticed the victim’s injuries on Thursday called police after Putnam reportedly went to her house.
The friend said that upon questioning about the victim’s injuries, Putnam threatened her and a toddler, who was not present at the time, according to a police report.
A check by police showed Putnam had an active Superior Court bench warrant and found him at a town residence where he was taken into custody. He was due to be arraigned Tuesday.
UNDERAGE ALCOHOL POSSESSION
Portsmouth Police charged Darius Ladon Garner, 20, of 106 Ruggles Ave., Newport, with underage possession of alcohol Friday at 2:14 a.m.
Police said Garner was stopped for speeding near King Charles Drive and West Main Road and an officer saw an open bottle of Hennessy Cognac on the rear floor of the car.
Garner told police the alcohol belonged to his cousin. Police noted that Garner showed no signs of impairment. He was also issued a summons for speeding.

Police reported that Rooke had been staying at the address for about a month.

Police arrived moments later and Gillis reportedly showed signs of intoxication, police said, and she failed a field sobriety test at the scene.
She was taken into custody and later released on $1,000 personal recognizance. She is due to return to court on Jan. 8 for a pretrial conference.
