Police Log: Officers Arrest Man for Making Threatening Phone Calls

The following are arrests made recently in Portsmouth, including the apprehension of a Portsmouth man who allegedly made harassing phone calls to a Middletown woman.

The following is a list of arrests made by the Portsmouth Police Department from Saturday, Aug. 14, through Monday, Aug. 16. The information provided is based solely on police reports.

  • Shawn Ryan, 19, of Fall River, MA, was arrested Monday around 6:25 p.m. on East Main Road at Clearview Avenue. Police were called to the scene to investigate a report of a disabled motor vehicle. Upon arrival, police say they observed the operator of the vehicle had "bloodshot eyes" and detected an odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. Upon a search of the suspect, police say they found two small bags of marijuana in the suspect's pant pockets. Ryan was charged with possession of marijuana, first offense, and obstructing an officer in the execution of duty. Ryan provided officers at the scene with a false name and age, police said. He was processed at the police station and held overnight.
  • Thomas Vlasaty, 21, of Tiverton, was arrested Saturday around 11:40 p.m. following a traffic stop on West Main Road near Freedom Bay. Police say that, as they approached the vehicle, they detected a strong odor of marijuana. After searching the vehicle, police said they found pieces of marijuana wrapped in paper, as well as small glass pipes with marijuana residue in them. Vlasaty was charged with possession of marijuana, first offense. He was released at the police station and received a summons to appear in court on Aug. 26.
  • Wayne Brown, 49, of Scotty Drive, was arrested Sunday around 7:15 p.m. at his home. Police received a complaint from a 30-year-old Middletown woman, who told police she received threatening phone calls from the suspect. Officers arrested Brown and charged him with making harrassing and threatening phone calls, domestic. He appeared before a justice of the peace earlier this week and has been ordered to appear in Second District Court on Thursday.
