At the final meeting of the 375th Steering Committee, on 30 January 2014, the last order of business was a motion to disband the committee which had served us so well in celebrating Portsmouth’s 375th Anniversary. A small group of committee volunteers, known as the Legacy Group, will continue to exercise fiduciary responsibility in managing the 375th Library fund, function as a part of the Portsmouth Library History Project committee, and continue to maintain links with the cities of Portsmouth in the UK, VA, and NH as part of the Portsmouth Atlantic Compact project.
In other business, Vice Chair Gary Gump, discussed plans for a small delegation to travel to Portsmouth, England this summer to attend the Lord Mayor making ceremony on 3 June.
Roberta Stevens agreed to organize and manage a 375th Anniversary “Time Capsule” to be left for the group who takes on the 400th Anniversary of Portsmouth in 2038.

During his closing remarks, Chairman Doug Smith presented a lapel pin showing the Portsmouth 375th logo to each of the committee members with his personal thanks for all of their hard work and support. Smith indicated that these pins would only be given to individuals who contributed significantly to 375th activities and should be worn with pride.
A final 375th social event is being planned for the last weekend in April at Greenvale Vineyards to thank everyone who made our celebration possible. This will be a Hors D’Ouevre and Dessert Pot Luck affair and all the donors, supporters and volunteers of our 375th events will be invited. More information on this will be available in the coming weeks.
