Portsmouth Abbey Ranked one of 30 Best Christian Boarding Schools in the Country
The school earned high marks in a recent survey of boarding schools in the USA.

Portsmouth Abbey sits on 500 acres of land, has 27 buildings and has a storied reputation as a former Benedictine monastery and one of the top private schools in Rhode Island.
And, according to www.thebestschools.org, it’s one of the 30 best Christian Boarding Schools in America. (Note, the list of schools after the links is alphabetical, not by ranking.)
The school earned high marks for its strong science and math curriculum in addition to its sprawling and beautiful campus. It also was commended for the competitive spirit that pits dorms against each other in the “Raven’s Cup,” which keeps spirits high through light-hearted competitions.

The school also offers a wealth of activities for students during the week and on weekends as well as a bevy of extracurricular activities, including music, art, astronomy, foreign language clubs and sports.
In addition to rigorous studies and deep school culture, students at Portsmouth Abbey are encouraged to serve in the community. Students are required to complete 10 hours of community service before graduation and encouraged to embrace spirituality into all aspects of their lives.

The school has about 350 students.
According to a release, “TheBestSchools.org selected Portsmouth Abbey based on several weighted factors, including academic excellence, extracurricular richness, geographical and demographical diversity, and reputation. Also, we gave strong preference to coeducational institutions; a few gender-specific schools are included due to their academic excellence.”
