Portsmouth Abbey Teacher Resigns after Allegations of Relationship with Former Student

School officials confirmed there was a complaint about an inappropriate relationship and the teacher resigned during a suspension.

A teacher at Portsmouth Abbey School in Portsmouth has resigned his position after allegations that he had an inappropriate relationship with a student at the exclusive private boarding school.

In a statement released to the media, Assistant Headmaster John Perreira said that the school investigated the complaint between the teacher, who has not been named, and a former female student who has since been graduated.

The teacher was placed on suspension and “while under suspension for inappropriate emails to a student, the faculty member has resigned,” Perreira said.

Perreira said the names have not been released at the request of the girl’s family.

Parents learned about the allegations on Monday in an email from the school that said the teacher was suspended on Saturday and resigned a few hours later.

In the email, the teacher is said to be banned from the school forever.
