Portsmouth Boy Scout Troop 82 Adult Leader Honored

Dave Davies Earns Adult Leadership Highest Training Recognition, Wood Badge

Portsmouth Boy Scout Troop 82's Adult Leader, Dave Davies, was presented with the honor of Wood Badge in an official ceremony presided over by Narragansett Council Course Director John Gilmore, held at St. Mary's Episcopal church May 4th.  Mr. Davies was honored by 9 Wood Badgers during the festive event.  Wood Badge is the premier advanced leadership training course offered by the Boy Scouts of America for adult leaders (Scouters).  The primary purpose of the Wood Badge experience is to strengthen Scouting in local units, districts, and regional councils and focuses on preparing adults to deliver the mission of Scouting.  The course content and leadership principles introduced apply to Scouters in all leadership positions and these skills provide a common leadership foundation beneficial for all program areas.  The first Wood Badge training was held in 1919 at Gilwell Park, near London.  Since the, Wood Badge has continued to evolve to meet Scouting's needs.  Congratulations to Mr. Davies on completing this intensive training which strengthens the adult leadership of Boy Scout Troop 82.
