Portsmouth Boy Scout Troop 82's 133rd Eagle Scout

Colt Nichols awarded Boy Scouts highest rank

On October 4, 2015 Colt William Nichols was presented with the rank of Eagle Scout by Boy Scout Troop 82’s Scoutmaster Justin Mostert at the Green Valley Country Club in Portsmouth.  Boy Scout Troop 82 is sponsored by St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Portsmouth.  Distinguished guests who participated in the Eagle Court of Honor ceremony were Mr. Jacob Ricci, Troop 82’s 110th Eagle Scout and one of Colt’s scouting mentors, as well as the Rev. Peter Andrews, pastor at St. Barnabas Church in Portsmouth.  Colt, the son of George and Dianne Nichols of Portsmouth, is the third member of his family to achieve the highest advancement rank in scouting.  Both his grandfather and older brother are Eagle Scouts.

The Potter League for Animals in Middletown was the beneficiary of Colt’s Eagle Scout Project.  Colt designed, developed and led a group of boy scout volunteers in the construction of an elevated wooden walkway connecting the parking lot, main building and dog walking enclosure at the Potter League’s animal shelter.  Most of the construction materials were donated by the Drew Pallet Company of Warwick, RI.  Colt completed his Eagle Scout requirements in April 2015.

With 10 years of scouting experience, Colt continues to be an active member of Troop 82 and Boy Scouting.  He has held various leadership positions in the Troop:  Patrol Leader, Troop Guide, Troop Order of the Arrow Representative, Instructor, Assistant Senior Patrol Leader, Quartermaster and Senior Patrol Leader.  A member of the Boy Scout National Honor Society, Order of the Arrow, Colt also graduated from Boy Scout’s National Youth Leadership Training (formerly know as White Stag).  He was invited back this summer as a staff member for this highly sought after training course.  In 2013, Colt attended the Boy Scout National Jamboree representing Narragansett Council and Portsmouth Boy Scout Troop 82.
