The discovery of heroin resulted in a charge of narcotics possession in addition to a charge of entering a building with felonious intent.
Atkinson was arraigned in Newport District Court on Jan. 16 and was presented as a bail violator. Court records show Atkinson is currently serving a seven year suspended sentence for a felony assault and conspiracy conviction in 2010. He pleaded no contest to both charges in a plea arrangement that led to the dismissal of two first-degree robbery charges.
Atkinson has been without bail at the Adult Correctional Institutions in Cranston since his arrest and is due to appear in District Court in Newport.
He is also due to appear in court on Feb. 26 for a screening conference.
