Portsmouth E-Waste Collection To Be Held April 20

PORTSMOUTH, RI — If spring cleaning has left you with a pile of old, dusty electronics, don't throw them in the trash just yet. This Saturday, electronic waste can be brought to Portsmouth High School from 9 a.m. until 12 p.m. for disposal. Items including TVs, small appliances, computers and more will be accepted.
The following items will be accepted, free of charge:
- Computers and accessories: laptops, servers, desktop computers, routers and accessories including mice, keyboards, speakers and microphones.
- Televisions and screens: TVs, computer monitors and flat screens. All TVs must be intact, with no tubes or electronics stick out.
- Hard drives and storage: hard drives, optical drives, motherboards, daughter boards, ram and CD ROMs. All storage items will be destroyed.
- Small electronics: printers, fax machines, typewriters, scanners, toner cartridges, cameras, calculators and small medical equipment.
- Phones: cell phones with batteries, cordless phones, telephones, PDA's, iPods, tablets and chargers.
- Rechargeable batteries: all types will be accepted, including those for laptops, vehicles, boats, cell phones, lithium and battery backups.
- Cables and wires: all types will be accepted.
- A/V equipment: stereos, CD and DVD players, console gaming systems, cassette players, and remote controls.
- Small appliances: Household appliances including toasters, microwaves without the glass plate, toaster ovens, blenders without a glass pitcher, mixers, vacuum cleaners with the dust bag removed and power tools.
Certain items, including air conditioners, laser jet printers, dehumidifiers, small refrigerators, water coolers and other appliances with coolant will be accepted for a $10 fee.

The following items WILL NOT be accepted:
- Light bulbs (all types)
- Disposable or single-use batteries
- Thermometers
- Thermostats
- Glass items, including microwave plates and blender pitchers
- VHS tapes
- CDs, DVDs or floppy disks
- Electronic equipment encased in wood such as speakers
- Furniture or cushioned chairs
- Electric organs
- Heating pads or electric blankets
- Mattresses
- Plastic bags
- Cardboard
- Plastic bins
- Styrofoam
- Wood
- Firearms
- Any hazardous materials, including paint and chemicals.
