Portsmouth High School Band Wins First Place at New England Championship

Under the leadership of Band Director Ted Rausch, the Portsmouth High School Band placed first in Division VI at a recent competition among New England states.

band has more reason to celebrate this week after taking first place at a recent New England competition. 

On Saturday, Nov. 5, the Portsmouth High School band competed against 40 other bands from high schools across Connecticut, Massachusetts, New York, and Rhode Island.  

Under the leadership of Band Director Ted Rausch, the Portsmouth High School Band placed first in Division VI.

They received an overall score of 80.2 in this year’s competition, compared to last month’s score of 76.7. 

Accepting the trophy and banner for the PHS Band were Drum Majors Joe Maiato, Brianna Lee and Eliza Petty, along with Color Guard Captains Kendall Bauer and Ally Criner. Contributing to  PHS’s successful performance this year were Tim Marum, Lisa Mailloux, and Donna Valente.

The PHS band received much parental support at this year’s competition.  Parents Gary Jefferds and Joe Maiato drove the equipment trucks, while more than 20 parents attended the event.

Congratulations is extended to the PHS Band for their award-winning performance of Wizard of Oz!
