Portsmouth High School's Class of 2011 Leaves Behind 'Green' Legacy

The graduating class announced its departing gift during Friday's graduation ceremony.

Every year, the graduating class at leaves behind a gift to "show their appreciation and gratitude," according to graduate Stephanie McInnis.

This year's Class of 2011 is leaving behind a very "green" gift.

"This summer, we have arranged for a water filter system to be installed into a water fountain, giving the water the cold, clean taste of bottled water," said McInnis, class treasurer, at Friday's commencement ceremony.

The gift was funded by the Class of 2011 Student Council. The gift was chosen in support of the school's new Green Club.

"Having Portsmouth High School become an eco-friendly school can cut down on waste and really make a difference," McInnis said to the graduates on Friday. "Water bottles are available to all with the school logo on the front. Please take advantage of this and make us proud by making PHS a green school."
