Updated: Portsmouth Man Identified As Driver In Fatal Bicycle Crash

have confirmed that the victim of the fatal bicycle accident was 42-year-old Michael Strickland of Middletown.  

Strickland was reportedly riding his bicycle eastbound on Purgatory Road, approaching the intersection with Tuckerman Avenue, when a vehicle, operated by 51-year-old Arthur Chapman of Portsmouth, was traveling up the hill on Purgatory around 5:45 p.m. Thursday. 

[Updated 11:09 a.m.] Strickland was transported to Newport Hospital and later Rhode Island Hospital, where he died, said an official at the . The fire chief reported that Strickland was wearing a helmet. 

The accident remains under investigation.
